Fatman Scoop Dies
Fatman Scoop, known as the “undisputed voice of the club,” has passed away after reportedly collapsing during a concert in Connecticut on Friday night.
His family confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Saturday. He was 53 years old.
“With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” the post on his Instagram page read. “Last night, the world lost a bright soul, a beacon of light both on stage and in life.”
The rapper and hype man, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, was performing at the Green and Gold Party summer concert in Hamden, about six miles from New Haven, when he suffered a medical emergency on stage.
Hamden’s mayor, Lauren Garrett, confirmed that he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
In a statement on Saturday, Garrett thanked the crowd members and paramedics who tried to save his life.
“On behalf of the Town of Hamden, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Isaac Freeman, known as Fatman Scoop,” she shared on Facebook. “He was an extraordinary performer with a loyal following, as shown by the thousands of fans who came to see what would be his final performance at Hamden Town Center Park.”
